The Program is Always Free For Charges And Open to All

Education is essential for the wellbeing of children, empowering them with important skills and knowledge that will allow them to thrive in society. Yet, teachings in traditional classrooms may not equip children with a sense of morality, cultural values and spirituality, which are elements that positively impact the development and maturity of individuals. A value-based education is beyond the fundamentals of the theories taught in classrooms. It consists of cultivating a philosophical understanding that will foster a strong sense of citizenship, humility, compassion and appreciation for life from a young age.

At ISKCON Calgary, we nurture children’s individual talents, and encourage collaborative learning while exploring spiritual topics for personal enrichment through a Krishna (God) Conscious platform. Specifically, we investigate concepts such as:

  • Who am I and what is my purpose?
  • Who is Krishna (God)?
  • What is compassion, and how can I be a better person?
  • How can I develop my spiritual consciousness from a young age?
  • Why is it important to respect all living beings?

In addition to learning about these topics, we also organize cultural-based performances such as dramas based on the pastimes of Krishna, musical presentations as well as recitals of poetry and ancient Vedic texts – our students are quite talented and enjoy these activities the most! We equally partake in seasonal festivities such as our yearly Christmas and Year-End celebration where our students bake treats and participate in fun activities, or the Ratha Yatra (Festival of Chariots) during which they decorate their very own children’s chariot for the parade.

Outside of the classroom, our students are active members in our temple and greater community. In fact, our students are engaged in services such as helping to prepare as well as serving a free vegetarian feast and water to our guests every Sunday, cleaning the temple hall and kitchen, and wiping the tables after the meal. Moreover, some of our students felt inspired by the education they receive in our school and became involved in several projects in their schools such as band and theatre as well as leadership and environmental awareness initiatives, demonstrating their talent, maturity, enlightenment and compassion.

If you would like your children to become a part of a supportive and friendly school, and cultivate their understanding of Vedic culture, please register them to ISKCON Calgary’s Sunday School. Established in 2008, our program caters to the specific needs, questions and curiosity of our students. Our classrooms include students from diverse backgrounds, allowing them to learn from each other and respect cultural diversity. We host weekly classes every Sunday, from 530pm-630pm, and our official school year is from September to June. There is a small fee of $20 per child for the school year, and we provide all necessary supplies. All children aged 4 to 14 years are welcome, and the classes are taught in English.
We hope to see you soon!
